2007 – A walk down memory lane.

Post header, 2

A crazy year coming to an end, walking down those memories is both encouraging and sometimes disappointing. Tried being away from the digital madness, but never worked. I guess it’s time to stop pretending and get back to what we are. Well what can I say Information Technology is growing ten folds in a blink of an eye and seems like 24hrs is not really enough to catch up with it.

Let me share the top 5 sites that changed my life in 2007 – a passionate and powerful creative community, a place to showcase your artistic talents, I don’t know how but this site creeps into my daily surfing schedule. It’s a warehouse for creative inspiration, if you do happen to drop by, say hello to me at – a place of Zen for all the troubled minds, not exactly. A blog with tips to make a better living, there are simple and practical things in your day to day life that we never pay attention to, call it life in the fast lane but there is lot more in the detail that we really miss. Well I have to say some of the contents of this site really made me change the way I take life, especially this one, Wake up: A guide to living your life consciously – a social networking like no other. Yeah there are millions of social networking sites out there, but this one really did some good to me, I rediscovered a whole lot of lost friends that I was dying to contact, going way back to my school days. And a helpful set of features and plug-ins that lets you know what your friends are up even in your busy schedule. If you happen to be part of FB, drop by to my page, search for me as Shafraz Faiz – a site for design and life. The blog is maintained by a couple of well known designers, the information they share on the site are really helpful even for non designers. It’s a site worth checking out. If you are a designer and thinking of improving your portfolio you should check out this post which is totally awesome, Show & Tell, Chanporys Portfolio – if you are in the market for an online money management program, this is well worth the time, and it’s free. I know how hard it is to manage your finances. And the worse nightmare is spending your bucks and wondering what really happened to your earnings. This has a single snapshot analysis of your spending, which helps determine the volume of earning and spending. I believe, by using this web app you can take control of your finances.

What else, what else seems like we are days ahead to close in on another breath taking year, life aint promised by it sure gets better, I believe the dawn of the new year will bring us happiness, strength and courage.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

Blogging – A Digital Addiction.

Believe me, blogging is an addiction – the more you try to stop it, the more you end up blogging, its been long since I’ve blogged in this account, couple of weeks back I just cleaned this account deleting 100s of my digital memories, for some reason I really didn’t want to preserve them. I was digitally depressed about blogging and other social networking sites and wanted to take a break and pursue sometime more interesting and something which will take me away from the computers when I am not working.

Previously when I was writing here I was lecturing on .net technologies at an educational institute, which is the main cause of my depression, I had some crazy work hours and preparations and it almost brought down my health, my weight, my interests and a little bit of my life as well. The problem really is I always need things perfect, and for some crazy reason I really love what I did and that led to a lot of trouble, when you love what you do, you tend to pay more attention to that, which eventually cuts down almost all your free time. So I did it for like 1 year and then I had to make the hardest choice of my life, which is whether to continue what I was doing or do something that I really enjoy doing, at that time I have lost all hope for lecturing and programming, then I realized windows programming might not work out for me, I needed something to break free, and that is where I found my lost hobby.

All these years I have been doing Graphic Design as a hobby and a couple of freelance whenever time permits, but I never even thought of making a career out of it. When I finish an artwork, I truly felt good, happy and most importantly I was satisfied, which I never got while programming. The whole process of design is poetic, you are inspired by something and then you try to bring it out through creativity, which involves sketching, drawing and then finally computing, this blend of art really made me attracted, It had little bit of everything I ever wanted, and at that moment I decided this is the right career for me. And believe me things worked out well after that. I proposed and co – founded a design studio called Breeze Design Studio which is now in the NuMatrix Network, a global technology management firm in the US.

With Breeze Design Studio, I assembled a team of young and passionate designers in the island. Since its inception in 4th Quarter, 2006, Breeze has come a long way, we learned a lot, enjoyed a lot and was never really satisfied like this ever before, we did have our bad days too, but it was not in anyway distracting our work or our passion for creativity. I then joined DeviantArt, One of the coolest art community out there, I have known DA for a really long time but never registered or took part, with my new found passion I joined the communities and having a nice time with it. I go as QD Studios, which is my community id. There was this journal nevertheless an alias of the so called blog in the DA Account, which simply reminded me of the good olden days of blogging and brought me back in the game. And after giving up blogging I realized this is what is meant for me, and this is really what I enjoy doing most. So here I am, geared up for a brand new start in the blogosphere.

The Quest has begun . . .
